InSync10 Guidelines for Session Titles and Abstracts
Character counts for submitting papers:
Session titles: 80 characters maximum, including spaces (approximately 12 to 17 words, on average)
Session abstracts: 750 characters maximum
InSync10 reserves the right to edit all content. Abbreviated product names and unacceptable acronyms will be spelled out in the editing proces.
Rules and suggestions:
Consider including more demonstration time and less Powerpoint in your session.
Consider offering more technical content and case studies rather than presenting a marketing orientation.
Present structured information and "lean" slides.
Consider providing handouts to make notes and improve retention of content.
Abstracts and speaker bio's will be printed in the onsite conference agenda and may also be available online. This makes it especially important that session titles are descriptive of the content and use common keywords, and that the focus area, product area, and track information are complete and accurate so that delegates will find your session.
Example of useful title: Oracle 11g Data Mining for Price Segmentation in Price Planning Applications Example of not-so-useful title: Divining Segments from Sales Data
DO explicitly mention what is being discussed during the session rather than making a blank marketing or strategy pitch.
Use present tense in session descriptions. For example, "In this session, hear how an Oracle Projects customer uses..."
DO NOT use first person (I, our, we).
General Policies
Standard presentations will be 45 minutes although proposals for 60 or 90 minute presentations will be considered. We suggest you allocate 10 minutes for a Q&A period within that timeframe.
All submissions must include at least one speaker in order to be considered.
Do not include proprietary or confidential material in your abstracts or session content.
Make sure you have permission to submit any material that you have obtained from others.
The content team will notify submitters and/or speakers via e-mail around mid June 2010 if their papers have been accepted or declined.
External invited speakers are offered a complimentary pass that provides access to all InSync10 sessions, Welcome Reception, Exhibition Show Case, and cocktail party. Acceptance must be in compliance with the policies of your employer, including conflict, ethics and gift policies.
The complimentary pass will be canceled if the session is canceled or replaced. The complimentary pass is limited to one pass per speaker and is not transferable except as allowed by written agreement.
InSync10 does not reimburse speakers for their travel and expense costs, and speakers are responsible for any applicable taxes, custom duties or other expenses related to acceptance of the complimentary pass.
Deadlines must be met. Any requests received after the deadline may not be approved. Any missed deadlines can result in cancellation of sessions.
Speakers are responsible for notifying the content team with any speaker change request or if a session needs to be canceled. All requests should be sent to info@insync-conference.com.au with 1) the session ID; 2) title; and 3) reason for request.
InSync10 reserves the right to edit session information for clarity, length, style, and to ensure correct use of Oracle product names (Oracle product names must not be truncated or abbreviated, for example).
InSync10 cannot release attendees' information. This is in accordance with our privacy policy. By accepting the speaking invitation, you authorise InSync10 to promote, publish, and disseminate content submitted to InSync10 for use at the Insync10 conference & Exhibition.
